Larks RC – Runway Upgrade

On December 10, 2025 the flying field for the Larks-RC club will be closed to flying for runway upgrade. The closure will be for 1 week. This long time awaited project is finally underway. The field has been in operation for some 20 years or so and the runway is about 15 years old.

The new GeoTextile runway will be installed by a professional road building contractor from our local area.

Follow the progress here.

Day One work in progress, Wednesday December 10 2025

Day one off to a good start, old runway removed and piled up, initial scraping and mixing of materials, start of leveling.

Day Two Thursday December 11 2025

Lots of work happened today, grading, mixing, rolling, leveling and removal of the old fabric.

Day Three, Friday December 12 2025

That’s it for the day today. Not much happened, just a bit of rolling.

Day Four, Saturday December 13 2025

No updates, no work today.

Day Five, Sunday December 14 2025

No updates, no work today.

Day Six, Monday December 15 2025

Works continues today, with more grading, leveling and compacting.

Not all the work was done using machines, hand racking, spreading and leveling, with removal of unwanted larger pieces of stuff.

Fabric is being rolled out on the taxi way, wind not cooperating.

Taxi and runway approach aprons being installed. Note the wind sock.

Preparing the first roll out of the runway.

Day Seven, Tuesday December 16 2025

Fabric install on the runway continues today. Contractor is experiencing some challenges with rolling out the fabric and maintaining a straight line along the edge of the runway. Weather presenting additional challenges with wind, fog and cold.

Start of the second roll, first line looks good, almost wrinkle free. Good Job.

End of work today, three long rolls spread out and stapled down.

Day Eight, December 17 2025

The workers are back on site today getting ready to roll out the last three sections.

Work completed for today, all sections of the fabric have been rolled out on the runway and stapled down.

Day Nine, December 18 2025

Staples, Staples, Staples and more Staples to install. Clean up and removal of construction materials. This work should take the next two days to complete. Hopefully we can get back to the field and some much anticipated flying on Saturday.

Despite the intermittent rain, stapling continues.

Day Ten, December 19 2025

Hopefully the final day of work, more stapling and removal of the remaining materials and equipment. Let’s hop the field is open to flying tomorrow.

Notice the amount of staples being used. This picture shows just a few of thousands.

Looks like the work is coming to completion. Thanks to all involved that helped get this much needed upgrade/replacement off the ground and thru to completion. Enjoy the new runway. Please report any prop strikes, crashes or other mishaps that damage the new fabric to the executive committee, so that repairs can be made. Cheers for now.

Saturday morning, flying continues. Members at the field putting the new runway to the test.

January 13 2026 – Getting the runway ready for painting.
